The Many Ways Conventional Deodorant Threatens Your Health

Results of studies have shown that when you buy conventional deodorant, you not only pay now, but you also pay later in medical expenses. Conventional deodorant is one of the real threats to your health.

Take a few minutes to read these eye-opening facts about this type of deodorant.

Conventional Deodorant Contains Disease Promoting Ingredients

Most deodorants are filled with toxic ingredients, and incorrectly assuming that unless we eat or inhale something, it has no effect on your health.

Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it’s much worse.

The truth is that deodorants contain chemicals that can pass through the skin barrier, just like transdermal patches that deliver nutrients or medications through the skin. It is potentially a very dangerous one for your health.

Your body will naturally detoxify the chemicals that penetrate your skin. Will it not harm your body? Not so much. Actually, it is more dangerous when these chemicals are applied to the skin.

Heather Patisaul, Ph.D., an Associate professor of biology at North Carolina State University, says that:

“When you eat something, it’s broken down by your liver and digestive system. But when you put something on your skin, there are times when it can enter your bloodstream without being metabolized.”

Yes! The dangers are actually real.

Listed below are the dangers of chemicals commonly found in conventional deodorants.

Phthalates

Phthalates are hormone disruptors that help the “desirable” components of the deodorant (like fragrance) to stick to your skin. They are toxic to the reproductive glands of both men and women, affect fetal development in women, and has been linked to lower IQs and asthma.

Aluminum

Aluminum, which is added to deodorants, is one of the most toxic heavy metals. It blocks the sweat glands in order to limit the amount of sweat that is secreted. Sadly, this can have not-so-fun consequences.

Aluminum is a heavy metal that can promote the growth of tumors and cause gene instability. It is also associated with hormone disruption which can negatively affect the brain and liver.

According to a research published in 2014, researchers have found that antiperspirants can actually make your armpit odor worse. Aluminum found in antiperspirants killed off very little odor-causing bacteria while allowing bacteria that produce more pungent odor to proliferate instead. With long-term use, these products will leave your skin stinker than before, and with major health consequences.

Tricoslan

Tricoslan is a common ingredient used to kill bacteria on the skin. It has been found that 75% of Americans have detectable levels of triclosan in their bloodstream because it is commonly used in their products. Animal studies have found that this ingredient has been linked to hormone disruption and disruption of beneficial bacterial growth in the gut. It also impairs thyroid function.

Parabens

Parabens can be found in different personal care products. These are preservatives that have shown to be hormone disruptors that bioaccumulate in the body. They are also linked to organ toxicity, early puberty in children, and increased risk of developing prostate and breast cancer.

Fragrances

Fragrance has been linked to issues with the skin and lungs.

Other ingredients such as propylene glycol, artificial colors, triethanolamine (TEA) and diethanolamine (DEA), and steareth-N have their own toxicity and health impairments. Each ingredient mentioned above can cause serious health concerns. The combination of these makes conventional deodorant a game of Russian Roulette. Pull the trigger one too many times, and the results will be disastrous.
