Study: Sleeping In A Cold Room Provides Better Health Benefits

There were several pieces of evidence showing how sleeping in a cold room facilitates sleepiness and help you in losing extra pounds.

When your body temperature drops, sleep usually begins. That’s why; a colder room can encourage us to fall asleep faster.

Results of research conducted at the University of South Australia had revealed that a body with poor temperature regulation may suffer from certain forms of insomnia - sleep onset insomnia and sleep maintenance insomnia. Since insomniacs have warmer core body temperature, they need to wait for their body to drop its temperature to lose the heat keeping them awake or interrupting their sleep.

This only means that if you want to reach a deeper and restorative sleep, you need to fall asleep in a colder room to help your body cool down.

According to one study, you can lower your risk of certain metabolic diseases, like diabetes, if you sleep in a room set to 66 degrees. In the study, participants were found to be able to burn more calories when they were awake and almost have doubled their amounts of good fats which in the long-run can lower the risk of metabolic diseases.

This means that an inadequate amount of sleep will cause a person to wake up with high levels of cortisol thus making him more likely to reach for a box of cookies and have increased anxiety.

A study conducted by the US National Institutes of Health also showed that sleeping in a cold room has increase participants’ amount of brown fat which can help in speeding up their metabolism. Brown fat burns calories.
