Bilimbi: Health Benefits and Medicinal Uses
Bilimbi tree (Averrhoa bilimbi) is usually found in gardens and backyards. This pant it native to Southeast Asia and is widely cultivated through the Philippines, India, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Some of its popular names are Kamias, Belimbing, Pickle Fruit, and Cucumber Tree.
The fruits of this small perennial tree are small, with cylindrical-elliptical shape, crunchy while unripe, and falls to the ground when ripe. They have a sour, tangy taste due to its high amounts of oxalic acid. The acidity of the fruit gives a refreshing taste in many Asian soups, salads, wine, and curries.
Traditionally, the fruits, leaves, and flowers of Bilimbi plant have been used to treat various diseases. In addition to antioxidant content and astringent properties, the fruits also contain the following:

Has Astringent Effect
Simply have young stems and leaves mashed with 3-4 cloves of garlic and apply on the affected areas of the skin.
Helps Control Diabetes
Mash Bilimbi fruit and boil with 1cup of water. Wait until half of the water is left. Strain the decoction and drink it twice a day.
Make Bilimbi fruit juice. Consume it just like any other juices.
