Soothing Teas For Tonsillitis
Tonsillitis is common in children from preschool age through their mid-teens. This condition is caused by a variety of common viruses and bacteria, such as Streptococcal bacteria, which causes strep throat. It is associated with symptoms such as a very sore throat, jaw and neck tenderness due to swollen lymph nodes, red and swollen tonsils, tonsils that have white or yellow spots, fever, chills, stiff neck, and scratchy-sounding voice. These symptoms may worsen if the patient continues to consume sugary drinks and dairy products.
Here is the list of different teas that can help provide relief for swollen tonsils. Drinking these teas can help get us back on our feet in no time.
Ginger Root Tea
For this purpose, fresh or dried ginger root is recommended. Have a one-inch piece of fresh ginger or one teaspoon of dried ginger added into boiling water and steep for about ten minutes. For an additional soothing effect, we can drink it with some honey, apple cider vinegar, and a slice of lemon.
Green Tea
For best flavor, steep green tea for one to three minutes.
Chamomile Tea
Steep two tablespoons of dried chamomile flowers in eight ounces of boiling water for five to ten minutes depending on the desired flavor. Add some raw honey for additional benefits.
Black Tea and White Tea
Meanwhile, white tea is made from tea leaves that are picked before maturity and are unfermented. This increases the tea’s phytochemical strength.
Turmeric Tea
Simply simmer a one-inch piece of fresh turmeric root or one teaspoon of turmeric powder in eight ounces of hot water for 20 minutes and strain out the root. Add some honey for a more soothing effect.
Some of the home care tips we can follow to ease symptoms of tonsillitis are as follows:
