Common Causes Of Hand Tremors (Shaky Hands)

It’s normal for our hands to shake during a first date, terrifying interviews or other stressful events in our lives. But what if this happens without any reason?

Shaky hands are also known as hand tremors. Apart from making daily tasks difficult, it can also be a sign of some health-related problems.

Known Reasons Why Our Hands Shake

Deprived Sleep

Aside from making a person irritated and angry, sleep deprivation can also increase our body’s usual tremor. Experts recommend seven to eight hours of sleep and if we lack the sleep our brain starts to malfunction as it is forced to work in a stressful condition thus interfering with what the body normally does.

Overactive Thyroid (Hyperthyroidism)

Hyperthyroidism is one possible reason for shaky hands. This only means that our thyroid gland is working really hard and kicking our heart rate into high gear. Aside from shaky hands, we may also lose some pounds, get a faster heartbeat, sensitive to light, and have trouble sleeping.

Low Blood Sugar

Blood sugar powers our nerves and muscles are powered. Once our body doesn’t get enough of it, our hands shake. Low blood sugar can be caused by not eating enough food, too much alcohol intake, certain medications, and diabetes.

Lack Of Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 keeps our nervous system up. A deviancy in this vitamin can lead to shaky hands or numbness of arms and legs. Foods high in vitamin b12 are animal liver and kidney, tuna, clams, sardines, salmon and eggs.

Consuming Too Much Caffeine

Too much caffeine intake can affect our nervous system and make us feel jittery. Aside from helping us wake up, this stimulant will also make our hands shake. Caffeine is not only present in coffee. It can also be found in over-the-counter headache medicine, sodas, and chocolates.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

MS is a disease that targets our immune system, nerves, brain, and spinal cord. It can make our hand and foot shake.

Alcohol Withdrawal

This occurs when a person who is accustomed to drinking large amounts of alcohol suddenly stops drinking alcohol. Symptoms like shaky hands can be experienced an hour after the last drink and this can last a few weeks.
