Veggies That Can Help Boost Kidney Health


Kidneys are important organs that are responsible for getting rid of waste products, drugs, and toxins through our urine, helping regulate blood pressure, and maintaining acid-base balance in the body. Due to these, we need to keep our kidneys in good condition for it to be able to run smoothly. For this, we need to include vegetables in our diet which are good for our kidneys.


Cabbage


Cabbages are a rich source of vitamin C, vitamin K, and fiber as well as vitamin B6 and folic acid. They contain phytochemicals that can help break up free radicals that have been associated with chronic diseases. Apart from this, cabbages are also low in potassium, thus making them an affordable addition to a kidney-friendly diet.


Spinach


Spinach is a leafy green vegetable containing beta-carotene that helps boost the immune system health and protect our vision. Aside from this, it is also a good source of magnesium, vitamins A, C, and K, and folate. Add spinach into everyday diet by making a simple side dish of steamed spinach, spiced up with garlic and olive oil or adding them into a salad.


Radish


This crunchy salad vegetable is highly nutritious and has rich medicinal properties. It also extremely low in calories and can help in getting rid of toxins that have accumulated in the kidneys and prevents kidney infection.


Garlic


Garlic helps reduce inflammation, lowers cholesterol, and prevents the formation of plaque in our teeth.

We can add it to meat, vegetable, or pasta dishes. Also, roasting garlic head and spreading on bread would be great.


Onion


Onions are significantly loaded with Sulphur compounds, flavonoids, and quercetin, a powerful antioxidant that helps lower down our risk of certain cancers and heart diseases. Being low in potassium and a good source of chromium, onion can help promote the kidney’s health.


Red Bell Peppers


Red bell peppers are tasty vegetables and an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B, folic acid ad fiber. Additionally, it also contains lycopene, an antioxidant that protects against certain cancers and low in potassium, thus making it perfect for the kidney diet.

We can eat them raw with dip as a snack or appetizer, or mix them into tuna or chicken salad or use them as a topping on sandwiches or lettuce salads
