3 Wonder Tonics That Can Help Fight Inflammation

Certain foods have a huge role in fighting or aiding against inflammation. Anti-inflammatory drinks made from anti-inflammatory foods may help us alleviate pain associated with various diseases. For those who are looking for pain relief for their inflammation, trying these tonics may provide some help.

Lemon + Turmeric Tonic

A large body of evidence revealed that turmeric’s active component known as curcumin is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant substance. It can help reduce the body’s anti-inflammatory response. It was found to be able to provide relief from inflammation and joint pain that is associated with multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Curcumin can also provide protection by neutralizing free radicals and fighting brain degeneration.

This tonic requires us to have the following in a small saucepan.

  1. 1 tbsp. freshly grated turmeric
  2. 1 tbsp. freshly grated ginger
  3. the juice of 1 lemon
  4. the rind of that lemon
  5. 3 cups of filtered water

Simmer them over medium to medium-high heat, and then turn off the heat. Set a small strainer over serving glasses and divide the liquid between two mugs. Drink 1 to 1 2/3 cups of lemon and turmeric tonic every day for up to four weeks.

Strained leftovers can be stored up to two to three days in the fridge. Simply reheat it on the stovetop to consume it.

Ginger + Parsley Green Juice

Ginger is known to be anti-inflammatory. It works by preventing the production of inflammatory molecules (like prostaglandin and leukotriene) and pro-inflammatory cytokines.

In a study, researchers found that parsley contains an active ingredient called carnosol, which targets inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis.

Here’s how to make the juice at home:

We need the following:

  1. 1 large handful of parsley
  2. 1 to 2 inches of ginger
  3. 1 green apple
  4. 1 lemon
  5. 1 small cucumber
  6. 2 cups of spinach
  7. 2 to 3 celery stalks

Add these to a juicer. Drink parsley and ginger green juice once daily for 8 to 12 weeks.

Anti-Inflammatory Golden Tonic

Consuming this tonic can ease current symptoms including fatigue, joint pain and chronic bloating, and will also reduce the risk of future diseases and slow aging.

Here’s how to make this tonic:

Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups filtered water
  2. 2 bags green tea
  3. 5 sprigs fresh thyme, lightly bruised with the side of a knife
  4. 1 (2 inch) piece peeled ginger, finely grated
  5. 1 (2 inch) piece peeled turmeric, finely grated
  6. 1 tablespoon honey, preferably manuka
  7. 1 tablespoon raw unfiltered cider vinegar
  8. Ice cubes
  9. 2 cups chilled sparkling water
  10. 4 wedges lime for garnish

Preparation:

In a small saucepan, bring filtered water to a gentle simmer and add tea bags, ginger, turmeric, thyme, honey, and vinegar. Stir to dissolve the honey. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture steep for 15 minutes. Strain into a mason jar and refrigerate for 1 hour. Fill 4 glasses half full of ice and divide the tonic mixture evenly among the glasses (about 1/2 cup tonic per glass). Top each with 1/2 cup sparkling water. Serve with a lime wedge, if desired.
