Herbal Teas That May Help With Acne And Other Skin Problems

When it comes to acne treatment, many of us opt for a more natural approach. Instead of using spot treatments and cleanser that is available in the market to address acne problems, we search for new ways to achieve clearer and healthier skin

Teas does not only quench our thirst and provide health benefits. We can also have that regular cup of these tasty drinks for us to use on our skin to deal with acne and other skin problems.

Turmeric Tea

Curcumin, the active component of turmeric, possesses powerful anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antifungal and antioxidant properties. Due to this, it has been widely used to heal a range of internal and external conditions. Aside from having a turmeric mask, we can also obtain its acne-healing benefits by adding a teaspoon of it to hot water and drink it as tea.

Green Tea

Green tea has been shown to possess substances called catechins - plant-based compounds, or polyphenols that have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic properties. Aside from this, it is also especially rich in epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a polyphenol that can help improve acne and oily skin.

Ginger Tea

Aside from soothing an upset stomach, ginger can also fight off acne. This effect is mainly attributed to its gingerol compounds which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Simply have a cup of ginger tea by boiling a spoonful of chopped ginger in water for a minute. We can also apply the tea topically to the affected area.

Spearmint Tea

A cup of organic spearmint tea has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammatory acne lesions by 25% after a month and by 51% after three months, according to a 2015 study by the American Academy of Dermatology.

This tea is especially recommended for women experiencing adult acne which flares up during their menstrual cycles.

Matcha Tea

Matcha tea is a trendy drink that is loaded with antioxidants, including epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Antioxidants help reduce signs of inflammation from the inside and help counteract the sebum oxidation that occurs before acne forms. Matcha tea was found to contain 137 times more antioxidants than plain old green tea.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is considered to be one of the best teas for acne. It provides anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Drinking a cup of chamomile tea regularly can help reduce the severity of acne breakouts. Also, the topical application of this tea can help relieve acne symptoms. Cold chamomile tea bags can be pressed on pimples to reduce the swelling and redness.

Stinging Nettle Tea

This tea can help in purifying and detoxifying our blood which leads to natural clearer skin and healthy skin. Stinging nettle tea can also supply our body with B vitamins, vitamin K, selenium, and zinc.
