Almost all of us may experience vomiting and nausea at one point in our lives. This may due to acid reflux, pregnancy, stress, alcohol hangover, food poisoning, infections in the stomach, food allergy, overeating, migraine, appendicitis, cancer, and many more.

If we are struggling with constant nausea and vomiting and wanted some natural approach to get some relief, we can try inhaling these scents listed below.

Lavender Scent

Lavender is famously known for its relaxing and calming effects. It can be an effective treatment for nausea, anxiety, or panic-induced nausea or vomiting.

Simply carry a few dried flowers of lavender in a pouch or put a few drops of lavender oil on a kerchief and inhale it deeply when needed.

Ginger Scent

Ginger is one of the best home remedies we can try if we are feeling nauseous and vomiting. Studies revealed that its active components such as gingerol directly affect the digestive and central nervous systems. Inhaling ginger oil or ginger can be beneficial. We can have a few drops of ginger oil on our kerchief while we are traveling or use a diffuser with ginger oil at home.

Peppermint Scent

Both the leaves and oil of peppermint has been used to deal with indigestion and irritable bowel movement. In a small study published in February 2014 in the Journal of Peri Anesthesia Nursing, researchers have found that the scent of peppermint can ease nausea.

Inhaling the scent of fresh peppermint leaves is as good as chewing on a mint gum. So, whenever we feel nausea is approaching, we can carry a small vial of peppermint essential oil or dried mint leaves in a small pouch and inhale its scent. Researchers believed that doing this relaxes the gastric muscles and keeps them from cramping up or over-contracting.

Lemon Scent

Lemons are beneficial for our skin. Aside from this, it’s refreshing smell can also put us in a good mood and prevent nausea and vomiting in first stage labor. Their antiemetic properties, as well as the sour flavor, can help soothe the stomach. Lemons also contain neutralizing acids that form bicarbonates that help bring relief.

Simply bruise the skin of a lemon and inhale it or suck on a lemon wedge to obtain its benefits.
