Home Remedies That May Help Treat Skin Allergies And Itchiness

Skin itchiness and skin allergies may show a negative impact on our skin. These skin problems can really be irritating as the more we scratch our skin, the more it itches. With constant scratching, we can break our skin and make it prone to infections.

Luckily, we can try one of these at-home treatments for immediate itch relief.

Tulsi Or Holy Basil

Holy basil leaves are packed with essential anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. They are significantly rich in eugenol, camphor, and thymol which all have the ability to reduce skin irritation without causing damage on the surface of the skin.

Simply wash a few leaves and rub them over the affected area or prepare a tea by boiling a few leaves in the water in a covered utensil; then dip a cotton ball or cloth into the tea and apply to the itchy skin.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a powerhouse of proteins, minerals, antioxidants, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties that are beneficial in treating skin itchiness and other skin conditions. Aside from being a moisturizing agent, aloe vera is well-known for its skin-soothing properties.

Scoop out the jelly-like substance inside an aloe vera leaf and rub it over an itchy spot. Leave it on for a few minutes.

Mint Leaves

Due to the abundant amounts of salicylic acid along with the anti-inflammatory properties, mint leaves are helpful in removing bacteria and fungi in the deeper layers of the skin. Its powerful antioxidants work great for rashes and skin allergies.

This remedy requires us to create a paste by grinding a few leaves of mint added with a few drops of fresh water. Add a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice to it and mix them well together and then apply it to the affected areas. Rinse it off with clean water after 30 minutes.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Aside from getting rid of dandruff, apple cider vinegar is also effective against itchy skin. Its antiseptic and antifungal fungal action are the ones responsible for its anti-itching effects.

Just dip a cotton ball or cloth in a little apple cider vinegar and dab on the affected area to get rid of itchiness. Another way of using apple cider vinegar is by adding a cupful of it into our bathwater.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can do wonders on an itch whether is it due to dry skin or an insect bite. The oil is great for hydration and is gentle on the skin. Moreover, the lauric acid in coconut oil also helps reduce the presence of bacteria, fungi, and viruses on the skin thereby eliminating the risk of infection caused by scratching itchy skin.

Simply rub a little coconut oil directly onto the affected area or apply the oil all over the body after taking a bath to get rid of a widespread itch.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is great for soothing the skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce inflammation by neutralizing acids on the skin's surface, thereby balancing the pH, and also helps in killing bacteria on the surface of the skin.

All we need to do is to add 1 part of water to three parts of baking soda to make a paste and then apply it to the itchy area. Aside from this, a soothing baking soda bath can also be prepared by adding a cup of baking soda into a tub full of lukewarm water and soak in it for half an hour; then dry in air.
