Easy-To-Try Home Remedies For Ingrown Toenails

An ingrown toenail can be infected pretty fast. Before this happens, we need to have some effective natural solutions that will not only help prevent infections but will also provide some relief from pain and swelling associated with the ingrown toenail.

Listed below are some of the easy to find remedies that may help treat ingrown toenails and keep it from getting worse.

Lemon Juice And Honey

Having a great antimicrobial effect, lemon and honey may help fight the possible infection in the affected toe.

This remedy will require us to apply a drop of lemon juice and a little bit of honey right onto the toe. Cover the toe with a bandage and leave it overnight. For best results, these procedures should be repeated every evening.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

ACV possesses anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and antiseptic properties that can help relieve symptoms of an ingrown toenail and prevent infection.

For this remedy, simply mix equal parts of raw ACV and warm water in a bowl. Soak a cotton ball in the solution and place it over the affected area. Secure with a bandage for a few hours. Remove the bandage and draw out the toenail.

Moreover, we can also prepare a basin of warm water combined with 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar. Soak the affected foot for up to 20 minutes daily. Dry the foot thoroughly after soaking.

Epsom Salt

Soaking the foot may help reduce swelling and ease the pain. We can soak our feet for 20 minutes in a bowl of warm water with 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt. Adding Epson salt to the water may bring some relief. After doing so, dry the feet thoroughly. Repeat the procedure about 3 times a day for a better result.

Turmeric

Turmeric’s active component curcumin has antiseptic, pain-relieving, and anti-inflammatory properties that can help in reducing swelling and pain from the ingrown toenail.

Make a smooth paste by mixing half a teaspoon of turmeric powder with a few drops of mustard oil. Cover the affected toe with the paste and apply a bandage over it. Hold it for about an hour. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times daily for at least a week before cutting the raised toenail.
