Homemade Repellents That Can Help Get Rid Of Mosquitoes

With mosquitoes nesting and breeding in areas with water (puddles, water containers, and ponds), it is expected that a number of mosquitoes might cause itchy and swollen bumps on our skin. It may also bring several deadly mosquito-borne diseases. But before that happens, why not try making homemade mosquito repellents that contain natural and effective ingredients.

Tea Tree Oil And Coconut Oil

Tea tree oil has potent anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that may help prevent and heal mosquito bites. Its strong aroma can keep mosquitoes at bay. However, due to this strong aroma, we need to combine it with a good carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil.

Simply mix 10 drops of tea tree oil and 30 ml of coconut oil or olive oil and then apply it directly to the exposed areas of the skin 2 to 3 times daily before going out.

Baking Soda With Vinegar Mosquito Trap

Once baking soda comes in contact with vinegar, they create a reaction that releases carbon dioxide. Since carbon dioxide attracts mosquitoes, it can be used to trap and kill them.

For this, we need to take and empty bottle and add ¼ cup of baking soda to the bottom part of it. Take the top part of the bottle and invert it so that it looks like a funnel. Place the inverted half of the bottle on top of the bottom half and pour 1 cup of vinegar into this. Place it outside the room.

Lavender Oil, Vanilla, & Lemon Insect Repellent

Properties that repel mosquitoes are all present in the ingredients. Lavender oil contains limonene, camphor, and eucalyptol which are all effective at keeping insects away. On the other hand, lemon has high acid content, which prevents mosquitoes from biting the skin.

This homemade repellent will simply require us to mix 10 drops of lavender oil with 3 tbsp. vanilla extract in a spray bottle. Add in the freshly squeezed 3 tbsp. lemon juice before finally adding water. Shake the bottle continuously until the ingredients are combined. Use this bug spray on the skin two to three times a day.

Citronella Oil And Alcohol Spray

Citronella oil contains compounds that exhibit mosquito repellent properties, including citronellal, geraniol, citronellol, citral, and limonene. Meanwhile, alcohol has thiamine, the smell of which repels mosquitoes. When combined, these two ingredients work great at keeping mosquitoes at bay.

Mix 10 ml alcohol and 90 ml water and then add 10 drops of citronella oil. Mix well and put it in a bottle. Spray on the exposed areas of the body 2-3 times daily.
